CJTF member arrested for torturing two boys over allegedly stealing N30k
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, has been arrested for subjecting two boys to jungle justice for allegedly stealing the sum of N30,000 in Borno State.
A video of the CJTF member torturing the boys went viral fast. The footage shows the suspect tied up the teenagers identified as Abba and Abubakar, and hung them on a stick while beating them.
The attention of Abba Aji Kalli, the State Coordinator of CJTF, was drawn to the viral video, he however ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect and apologized to the victims and their families.
The Civilian Joint Task Force is a loose group of militants that was formed in Maiduguri, Nigeria to help oust Boko Haram Islamist fighters from their city. The local group was formed in 2013 and have been engaged in security operations and more recently, involved in providing security to camps for internally displaced populations. There have been a number of areas where the Civilian Joint Task Force have been helpful in civilian harm mitigation and protection as well as areas where members of the group have themselves committed harm, this is case is an instance.
