Christian Eriksen shares first photo in hospital following on-pitch cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen has shared the first picture of himself in hospital after his cardiac arrest during his country’s Euro 2021 opener against Finland on Saturday.

The incident happened during the first half of the game as Eriksen was walking alone near the sideline in the 42nd minute when he appeared to stumble and then fall forward.

His teammates immediately waved for trainers to rush to his aid. The players formed a circle to shield Eriksen as the medical teams performed chest compressions on the player.

Writing on Instagram alongside a picture of him smiling, Eriksen wrote:

“Hello everyone.

“Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

“I’m fine – under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.

“Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark. Best, Christian.”
