He described the late Chief Imam as an astute bridge-builder and respected community leader.

Operation Safe Haven Media and Information Officer, Major Adam Umar, who also confirmed the incident said the task force was working in conjunction with the police to investigate the incident, which was reported by the MACBAN chairman in Riyom.

This is coming after it was reported that a 35-year-old Muslim cleric, Yusuf Amzat-Salam, also known as Alfa Abu, his wife and four children were killed by unknown persons in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The incident occurred at Atiba area of Odogbolu Local Government Area. The eldest child, a girl aged 11, her twin brothers, aged eight and the last female child, aged two were all killed. All the victims have been buried in accordance with Muslim rites, amid wailing by sympathisers and relations.

The attackers, whose motive could not be ascertained, butchered the entire household with machetes. NAN learnt that the victims were discovered in the pool of their blood when a school bus came to pick the children.

A close family friend, Yusuf Oludaisi, described the act as dastardly and wicked, wondering what the victim must have done to warrant such treatment.

“He was someone whom we grew up together. I have known him for 30 years to be humble and kind to everyone who came across his path.

“It’s really sad because this was someone you will never see quarrelling or being disrespectful,” said Mr. Oludaisi.

The younger brother of the victim, Ishaaq Amzat-Salam, on the other hand said he would leave the matter for God to judge.
