Award winning rapper, Cardi B, who might be going into labour soon has made history again, after earning her number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second time in her career.
Cardi B’s latest single from her debut album Invasion of Privacy, “I Like It”, got to the number one spot after only a few weeks on the Hot 100 singles charts, making her the first female rapper to accomplish this.
The rapper earned her number one spot last year with her breakout smash “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” which went on to rule the charts for three consecutive weeks in October 2017. The single is also the first number one for Latin music stars J Balvin and Bad Bunny, who are featured on the tune.
“I Like It” takes the reigns from XXXTentacion’s “SAD!,” which jumped to number one following the shooting that killed the young rapper in June 2018.
Thanks to “Bodak Yellow” and now “Like,” Cardi B passes four female rappers who previously topped the tally with one No. 1 apiece: Lauryn Hill, with “Doo Wop (That Thing),” for two weeks in 1998; Lil’ Kim, with “Lady Marmalade,” with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk (five weeks, 2001); Shawnna, as featured on Ludacris’ “Stand Up” (one, 2003); and, Iggy Azalea, with “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX (seven, 2014).
Cardi B is the first artist to notch a pair of Hot 100 No. 1s from a debut album since Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose The Heist yielded “Thrift Shop,” featuring Wanz (six weeks at No. 1), and “Can’t Hold Us,” featuring Ray Dalton (five), both in 2013.
The female rapper is also the first soloist with a pair Hot 100 leaders from a debut LP since Bruno Mars, whose Doo-Wops & Hooligans produced “Just the Way You Are” (four weeks at No. 1, 2010) and “Grenade” (four, 2011).
And, Cardi B is the first female soloist with two Hot 100 No. 1s from a debut album this decade, and the first since Lady Gaga, whose The Fame generated “Just Dance,” featuring Colby O’Donis (three weeks on top), and “Poker Face” (one), both in 2009.
