Hollywood action hero Brendan Fraser looks unrecognisable 20 years on from his career-defining role as George of the Jungle and later, swashbuckling action-hero Rick O’Connell in The Mummy franchise.
Brendan Fraser was spotted on a beach in Barbados with his three children on Wednesday.
The 49-year-old actor – best known for looking buffed in 1997’s George Of The Jungle and for starring alongside Rachel Weisz in The Mummy franchise – looked comfortable in his black Nike shirt and shorts.
He was spotted with his three children: Griffin, aged 15, Holden, aged 13, and Leland, aged 11, with ex-wife Afton Smith.
This sighting comes after the Hollywood vet revealed to GQ magazine that he ruined his body from doing too many stunts for his films where he was required to pull off some fairly dangerous stunts, causing him to have multiple operations.
‘By the time I did the third Mummy picture in China [in 2008], I was put together with tape and ice…’cause they’re small and light and they can fit under your clothes. I was building an exoskeleton for myself daily,’ he told GQ, men’s monthly magazine.
Eventually he needed multiple surgeries. He needed a lumbar laminectomy, a surgery that removes the back portion of a vertebra in the lower back, to create more room within the spinal canal.
However, it didn’t take and it had to be done again a year later.
Brendan Fraser underwent a partial knee replacement, more back surgery involving bolting various compressed spinal pads together and even surgery to repair his vocal cords.
Fraser said he was in and out of hospitals for almost seven years.
Brendan Fraser also claimed that he experienced sexual harassment by an influential Hollywood figure. In 2003
The alleged incident occurred in 2003 by the then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Fraser said it happened while they were having lunch.
‘His left hand reaches around, grabs my a** cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint.
‘And he starts moving it around. I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry.’
After immediately leaving the luncheon, Fraser told his wife of the interaction but otherwise remained silent for fear of embarrassment and career damage.
Earlier this month, Fraser also broke his silence on his depression that has crippled him for decades. His divorce from ex-wife Afton no doubt took a toll. See more photos below:
