Ex Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has gone at the age of 95, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced.
Mnangagwa tweeted on Friday:
“It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe,” Mnangagwa updated on Twitter early on Friday.
“His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
After Mugabe’s exit from office in November 2017, his famous physical strength seemed to leak away.
The former political detainee turned independent leader swept to power in the 1980 elections after a growing revolution and economic sanctions forced the Rhodesian government to the negotiating table.
He was aged 95. He gave up the ghost after battling ill health. Mugabe was removed from power in a military coup in November 2017, putting an end to his three-decade reign.
