A Kogi state high court, sitting in Lokoja on Wednesday granted bail to the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, on the suit of illegal possession of firearms brought against him.
The presiding judge, Justice Nasir Ajana, granted Melaye bail with the sum of N10 million and one surety.
He said the bail was granted because of the health condition of the applicant and the fact that the senator did not have an antecedent of dealing in firearms.
It can be recalled that Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West in the red chamber was arrested by the Nigerian Police at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja while on his way to Morocco.
We reported that the senator and other passengers had boarded the plane and the aircraft was about to leave, when policemen were said to have stopped the take-off, asking the passengers to disembark from the plane.
Dino Melaye on the other hand, confirmed his arrest on Twitter. He wrote;
“Stopped from traveling and under arrest. No retreat no surrender. Talk we must.
I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Government after checking in.”
The Nigerian Police had asked the Interpol to arrest Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district in the National Assembly anywhere he is seen. Recall that the Kogi State Police Command while announcing the escape of six criminal suspects who escaped from custody in a statement signed by the Commissioner, Ali Janga, told Interpol to arrest Dino Melaye anywhere he is seen.
