Dr. Kayode Fayemi has resigned his appointment as Minister of Mines and Steel Development so as to concentrate on the upcoming Governorship election in Ekiti State.
Fayemi tendered his resignation letter to Pres. Buhari three weeks ago, but it officially takes effect from Wednesday, May 30.
Kayode Fayemi will be ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC flag bearer in the upcoming Governorship election.
The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, had last week said he would resign from the federal cabinet in a week. He said;
“There is still a lot of work to do. The constitution again is very clear. What the constitution says in Section 182 is that I must leave the cabinet at least 30 days before the general election,”
“Well, I am the candidate of our party and I am also a minister of the Federal Republic at least for the next one week. So, for the next one week, I am the Minister of Mines and Steel.”
Incumbent governor, Fayose, has already boasted that an electoral disaster awaits Fayemi in the July 2018 polls. Fayose said;
“He will suffer the worst defeat of his political career… after the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion.”
