Yesterday we reported that the Abia State Police Command arrested one Chinyere Odum, a mom who reportedly set her 14-year-old son, Prince Odum ablaze for stealing a neighbor’s MP3 player. Prince was tied him up, doused him with kerosene and set ablaze by his mom in Amuzukwu Ibeku, Abia State, after the theft. .
However a new report confirms that the 14-year-old boy died in the early hours of today at the University Teaching Hospital, Enugu where he was referred to from the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia where he couldn’t be treated because of lack of equipment.
Recall that we reported yesterday that Prince, his parents’ only son, had pleaded with the police to free his mom as he was at fault for stealing. However, Chinyere is currently being detained by the police, as it was further gathered that she has a previous history of beating the deceased with firewood.
Few months ago,it was also reported that a 22-year-old man in Omu-Aran, Kwara, Sola Akangbe, died following wounds he sustained after he was reportedly set ablaze by his biological father, Kehinde. The deceased, a wheelbarrow pusher, was said to have suffered high degree burns and was confirmed dead by doctors at Ajisafe Hospital, Omu-Aran, where he was rushed to by the police on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that doctors at the hospital battled to save his life as the fire affected most parts of his body.
The deceased was said to have been accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from some roadside beggars, and was apprehended and handed over to his father. The father, a commercial driver, allegedly drove his son to a nearby bush on Omu-Aran-Isanlu-Isin road, tied his hands and legs before setting him ablaze. Sola, who was still alive when he was rescued, told his rescuers that his father was responsible for the act.
