Big Brother Naija 2018 ex-housemate, Tobi who in an interview with Punch was quoted saying that previous winner of the reality show, Efe was voted out of pity and not because Nigerians saw potentials in him, has waded in to salvage the controversy it ignited.
Tobi reportedly said in the interview;
“Personally, I think that in the last Big Brother that held, people voted for the winner out of pity not because they really saw value or potential in the winner, that is just my personal opinion, I stand to be corrected.
“I was very happy because I knew that at that stage, anyone of us could emerge as the winner. We did not know the amount of love people had for us outside the house.
“I particularly wanted people to love me and see the values that I had because I knew that whenever I left the house, that is what people would still love about me.
“But as for me, I wanted to go to the house and let people love me to the extent that when I leave the house, I would be a mentor to other people based on my behaviour in the house.
“I wanted people to still want to know about the Tobi brand after the show and that was my driving force.”
However reacting to the controversy his statement caused, Tobi said he was misconstrued and he will never disrespect Efe intentionally.
In his chat with Goldmyne TV the homecoming party held for the top 5 housemates at Cubana yesterday, Tobi said;
‘No that was misconstrued. Efe is much loved, like I said I went into the house to sell myself, like show people what I can do. My words were twisted. So Efe if you dey hear, is one love mehn, I won’t disrespect you. It was misconstrued, everything I said was taken into another context. I’m out for truth, I will air my opinion, but I won’t disrespect anybody’.
