Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) star, Diane Russet, has stated that she will love to see Lesbianism legalized in Nigeria.
Homosexuality is illegal in most African countries. In several, gay people face life imprisonment or the death penalty. Some religious groups brand it a corrupting western import.
The Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, which banned gay relationships and entrenched intolerance of sexual minorities in Nigerian society, was signed by Goodluck Jonathan, then president, in January 2014.
The law caused an international outcry, with condemnation from global human rights organisation and western governments. Human Rights Watch called it a “sweeping and dangerous piece of legislation”.
In a recent interactive episode with her followers, Diane revealed that she would love to see the law reversed.
Diane had asked them to share with her some of the secrets they haven’t shared with anyone.
One of her fans then mentioned she is attracted to girls and wished that lesbianism is legalized as she would love to date girls.
Responding to the fan, Diane said she also wished that Lesbianism is legalized in Nigeria. She also had happy words for a fan who mentioned he was gay.
