Ronald Koeman is set to be appointed the new Barcelona manager, after Quique Setién was reportedly axed in the fallback of their UCL humiliation in Lisbon.
Barcelona suffered their heaviest ever European loss at the hands of Bayern Munich on Friday night, as Setien’s side were thumped 8-2 in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the LaLiga giants will officially confirm the news later this week, with Quique Setien set to be shown the door after last Friday’s humiliating defeat against Bayern. He wrote on Twitter;
“Ronald Koeman has been choosen as new Barcelona manager. He’s going to leave Holland National team to join Barça – official statement on this week. Here we go!”
Koeman had already turned Barça down, in January, when the club were looking for a replacement for Ernesto Valverde, but this time he could not resist the challenge.
The original preference for the Barça president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, was to hire Mauricio Pochettino but some board members were against that considering the former Espanyol manager once said that he would rather go and work on a farm than manage Barcelona.
