The police have discovered another illegal Islamic rehabilitation centre in Rigasa, Kaduna State and rescued 147 victims.
The Policemen were led by Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to raid another rehabilitation centre, ‘Malam Nigga Rehabilitation Centre’ in Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of the State were victims including men, women and children were rescued.
At the centre, 147 men, women and children were rescued. Some of the victims that were rescued were met in chains. Among those rescued included 22 females and four foreigners while the owner of the centre was whisked away by security operatives for interrogation.
According to The Nation, majority of the inmates alleged that they were dehumanised and sexually abused severally.
They have now been moved to the Mando Hajj Camp for temporary shelter. They are also being given first aid treatment and tested for possible ailments.
Punch also reported that the police claimed the victims were from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries. Some of the children were rescued and placed under protective custody by the state government while the owner of the centre and teachers were charged to court by the state.
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the raid.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, who confirmed the incident said thorough investigation would be carried out and that the owner of the centre who is already in the custody of the police, would be further quizzed.
This comes less than a month after the police raided one Islamic centre at the same Rigasa in Igabi LGA of the state, evacuating 300 persons, who were also chained.
