Andre Harrell has died aged 59, his death was confirmed by DJ D Nice while spinning on Instagram Live for his popular Club Quarantine.
Andre Harrell was the founder of Uptown Records, former head of Mo Town Records who discovered Sean Combs better known as Diddy.
Sources also confirmed the music executive’s death to Variety although the cause of his death is unknown.
The record executive has been prominent in the music industry for the past four decades. He began his career as one half of the rap duo Dr Jekhyll and Mr Hyde.
Celebrity friends have taken to their social media pages to offer their condolences following the heartbreaking news.
Mariah Carey tweeted: “Why Andre. My heart is breaking and I can’t stop crying. He was an amazing friend and I will miss him forever.”
Actress Viola Davis penned: “RIP Andre Harrell…thank you for the gift of so many incredible artists. Gone too soon.”
Ava DuVernay tweeted: “Saluting Andre Harrell. The architect of so much music, so much culture. Rest now. In power and peace.”
Andre remained close friends with P.Diddy over the years and appeared in his 2017 documentary, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story. He also served as the Vice-Chairman of Revolt, Diddy’s multi-platform music network.
