The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, founded by Allan Gray in 2005, invests in the education and development of individuals with entrepreneurial potential within Southern Africa.

The Foundation currently operates in 4 countries across Africa – South Africa,  Namibia, Swaziland and Botswana. It receives its funding from the donation of Allan Gray Limited’s taxed profits.

ABOUT ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME:

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship recipients, known as Candidate Allan Gray Fellows, receive funding for university in addition to access to support and development to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset.

The Fellowship covers the following:

  • Full cost of university tuition
  • Full cost of university accommodation plus meals, books and tutor allowances
  • A monthly living stipend
  • Academic support and access to an entrepreneurial and personal development programme
  • Mentorship, both from individually assigned Foundation-employed staff, as well as business mentors
  • Access to potential postgraduate funding for graduated Candidate Fellows
  • No postgraduate contractual obligation

HOW TO APPLY FOR ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP:

Apply to join Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship programme and become part of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation’s growing community of current and future entrepreneurs if you want to make a difference and think you have what it takes.

  • Applicants from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland can apply during their Grade 12 school year or during their first and second year of university.
  • Candidates must have a track record of leadership or being entrepreneurially-minded and reflect the values core to our Foundation
  • Applicant must possess Achievement Excellence, Intellectual Imagination, Courageous Commitment, Spirit of Significance, Personal Initiative.

ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP CRITERIA

GRADE 12

  • Level 5 in Pure Mathematics for Grade 11 final results
  • Level 6 average for your final Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2018
  • Applicants must be under the age of 21 in the year of their application
  • The application closing date is 11 May 2018
  • South African Citizenship
  • Intention to study a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or
  • Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU,UFS,
  • Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch or UP.

1ST YEAR UNIVERSITY

  • Minimum average of 65% for your 2018 mid-year (June) exam results
  • Studying towards a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics), Engineering or Law
  • Studying at one of the following universities: WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch, UFS or UP
  • Applicants must be under the age of 22 in the year of their application
  • South African Citizenship
  • The application closing date is 17 August 2018

2ND YEAR UNIVERSITY

  • Minimum average of 65% for your 2017 year-end exam and 65% in 2018 mid-year exam
  • Studying towards a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics), Engineering or Law
  • Studying at one of the following universities: WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch, UFS or UP
  • Applicants must be under the age of 23 in the year of their application
  • South African Citizenship
  • The application closing date is 17 August 2018

NAMIBIA
(Grade 12)

  • Minimum C in Mathematics and English for Grade 11 November and Grade 12 April results
  • Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2018
  • Applicants must be under the age of 21 in the year of their application
  • The application closing date is 27 July 2018
  • Namibian Citizenship
  • Intention to study a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch, UFS or UP

BOTSWANA
(A/S, A LEVELS, GRADE 12 IEB & I/B LEARNERS)

  • Minimum C in Mathematics
  • Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2018
  • Applicants must be under the age of 21 in the year of their application
  • The application closing date is 24 August 2018
  • Botswana Citizenship
  • Intention to study a degree in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) at WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, Rhodes, UWC, Stellenbosch, UFS or UP

SWAZILAND
(A/S, A LEVELS, GRADE 12 IEB & I/B LEARNERS)

  • Minimum C in Mathematics
  • Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2018
  • Applicants must be under the age of 21 in the year of their application
  • The application closing date is 24 August 2018
  • Swaziland Citizenship
