The actress wore a black, lacy, transparent outfit that exposed most of her legs, to the displeasure of many Egyptians.

Multiple lawyers have filed a lawsuit against the 44-year-old accusing the actress of “inciting debauchery.” If convicted, she could face up to five years in jail, according to AFP.

According to The Telegraph, lawyers accused her of committing an obscene act in public, “inciting debauchery and temptation,” and “spreading vice in ways that violate established norms in Egyptian society.”

The Egyptian Actors’ Syndicate commented on the dress without naming Youssef.

“The appearance of some of the festival’s guests did not agree with the traditions and values of the society, and this has undermined the festival and the union which is responsible for its members behavior,” it said in a statement to AFP.

On Saturday, she apologized on social media to the “many angered” by her appearance.

“I probably miscalculated when I chose to wear this dress,” she wrote. “It was the first time that I wore it and I did not realize it would spark so much anger,” the actress added. “I reaffirm my commitment to the values upon which we were raised in Egyptian society.”

  36. Very good
It is this body exposure that has been the reason for rape and sexual assault which is a bit less in India because of these laws
Countries should learn from this act
It will help reduce rape cases as men would stop seeing bunch of naked ladies on the street and on set

  39. Egyptians are country that forbid unrealistic fashion style. You see, some people may take it as a nice fashion style especially here in Nigeria not knowing that other countries forbid such style. Egyptian actress, Rania Youssef, should face the 5yrs imprisonment, that should show that she should lead by an example

  40. Maybe these people should worry more about the poverty in Egypt than the clothes an actress wears to a film festival.

  41. Well, the established norm said such dressing is not allowed , but she jas apologized it doesn’t call for a jail term

  42. Well, since she apologized, I hope her fine would be reduced or probably be pardoned. Egyptian constitution knows better anyway.
