A 7-year-old girl was burnt to death following an explosion reportedly caused by adulterated kerosene in Sapele, Delta state.
According to reports coming from the area where the incident happened, the little girl was reported to have bought the kerosene a day before, but noticed the difference in colour of the kerosene.
Unfortunately, she decided to use her initiative and set a distance between herself and the stove before she lit the matches. But immediately she did that, the explosion occurred and the girl was set ablaze
The witness who chose not to be named said:
The girl bought kerosene yesterday then poured it in the stove only to notice a difference in the color. She then poured it into a bowl and confirmed that, indeed, there was something unusual about the color of the kerosene.
As a result, she became suspicious and put a little distance between her and the stove before lighting a matchstick. Immediately she did this, there was an explosion and the girl and the house went up in flames. She was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive.
Other rooms in the building were also affected by the fire and tenants lost valuable properties as the community had no means to contact the Fire Service of the state.
