The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Olawale Fapohunda, who led the prosecution team, told the court that the convict, Bashiru Adeyanju, committed the offence on September 10, 2017, at No 30, Irona Street, Ado-Ekiti.
Fapohunda stated that the convict on the said date unlawfully attempted to have sexual intercourse with his 17-year-old daughter.
He told the court that the victim said her father started having sexual intercourse with her since she was 10 years old after her mother walked out of their marriage.
Fapohunda said the offences contravened Sections 358 and 359 of the state Criminal Code law Cap C 16, of 2012.
Delivering her judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Monisola Abodunde, said;
“After listening to both the prosecution and the defence counsels, the prosecution had proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and established the case of attempted rape of his daughter. The court found you guilty as charged but based on the plea of the defence counsel, describing him as a first offender, he is hereby sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.”
