The three-month-old baby raped in Nasarawa State has undergone three corrective surgeries and is to undergo the fourth one.
The three-month-old baby, Rukayat, was raped in May 2019 in Agodi community, Nasarawa.
According to the baby’s mother, Maimuna Adam, she slept with her windows open to allow fresh air into her apartment only to wake up later in the night, to find out her baby who was supposed to be sleeping by her side, was missing.
Maimuna immediately raised alarm and her neighbors joined the search for her missing baby. She was later found an abandoned building with her pants ripped from her body and bloodstains around her vagina.
Baby Rukayat who was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) has so far undergone three corrective surgeries and is scheduled to go for the fourth one.
Speaking with Channels TV, Professor Edmund Banwat, the Chief Medical Director of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, said
”The girl was brutally assaulted and in the process, she suffered horrendous injuries”
The suspect has since been arrested and investigations revealed she was not the only minor he had assaulted, there were atleast three other minors in the past.
“He is presently in custody for allegedly raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi village of Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State,” a deputy commandant of the NSCDC, Bisi Olaboyega, said in Lafia.
Mother of the victim, Maimuna Aliyu said Ahmadu’s name had been mentioned as a possible suspect after the rape of her daughter before his arrest. “We got information that he was the one but since he wasn’t apprehended, we kept quiet,” she said. “Since the government has arrested him and he has confessed to the crime, they should help by giving him the punishment he deserves.”
