Three people have been killed, while seven others were injured following the collapse of a two-storey Islamiyya school building under construction at Unguwan Kaya, in Zaria, Kaduna State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday, while construction work was ongoing at the building. The Divisional Secretary, Nigerian Red Cross, Zaria branch, Malam Abdul-Muminu Adamu, who spoke to NAN at the scene of the incident, said the incident was “unexpected and very frightening.”
“Shortly when the incident happened, a good Samaritan called and informed us and we reported at the scene immediately.
“When we came here, we were able to recover the bodies of two people and later recovered another body, while seven other people were rescued alive.
“The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika; while the injured persons are also responding to treatment at the same hospital,” he said.

Few months ago, it was also reported that many lives were lost, following a building collapse of a primary school building in Lagos. According to Breaking Times, the building collapsed at Ajose street, Amukoko Apapa area of Lagos -killing one person, while some fear that others might be trapped in the rubble.
There was also a report of 3 persons feared dead after a school building located in the densely populated Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, collapsed. The victims were; headmaster of the school, a parent, who had come to pay her child’s school fees and a primary school pupil. Several other persons among, who were teachers, parents and pupils sustained varying degrees of injuries. It was gathered that the first crack which signalled the collapse of part of the one-storey building housing Painters Nursery and Primary school at 30 Ajose street, occurred at about 12noon.
But for the swift response of residents of the area, the incident would have recorded a high casualty.
