Three people have been killed and four others critically injured after a gunman opened fire in a bank in downtown Cincinnati early this morning.
The gunman is also dead, bringing the total to four deceased.
The gunman opened fire at a Fifth Third Bank in downtown Cincinnati. Cincinnati Vice Mayor Chris Smitherman says the suspect was shot but no police officers were hurt.
The shooting occurred at 9.10am in the lobby and the loading dock area at Fifth Third Bank at 511 Walnut Street, according to police. The Cincinnati Police Department sent out a tweet at 9.23am reporting an “active shooter/officer involved shooting incident”.
According to Cincinnati Enquirer, one victim was found at the intersection of 5th and Walnut Street while another was located inside Graeter’s Ice cream shop near the busy Fountain Square.
A witness told the paper he saw a woman walking into Fifth Third Bank with her headphones on and getting shot by the gunman.
“We did hear a gun shooting from the 29th floor. We could quickly see there was a large police presence and could see them blocking Fountain Square. We knew immediately something was wrong. We’re a bit rattled,” said Gregory Harshfield, Fifth Third Bank manager.
At least two ambulances were seen leaving the scene. Federal agents were also on the scene of the deadly incident.
