Sadiqu Daura, a 16-year-old boy in Daura, Katsina has been rescued from the cage he was confined to in his father’s house.
Satdiqu, who is physically challenged, was chained and confined to a cage by his father, Salisu Umar Daura after the death of his mother six years ago.
An NGO, Save the Children International, who rescued the victim, said the boy lost his mother six years ago, was taken to his paternal grandmother, who died shortly thereafter.
According to reports, Sadiqu was dehumanized in his father’s home, until last week when the NGO intervened and reported the matter to the police .
According to an investigative operators in Daura, Aminu Gambo, Salisu told the police that he decided to put the boy in a cage because there was no longer space for him in the two-room apartment housing the entire family of 15 including his 12 other children.
“He was detained at the police station in Daura for a day and then moved to the police headquarters in Katsina and later released on the condition that he will no longer subject the boy to such inhuman treatment.”He said .
